Transcendent Rider

Transcendent Rider

Rolling, rising, fog is climbing, over hilltops,
forest blanket, blowing upward to the sky.
Flowing clouds are driven upslope, peaking, cresting, and then they are falling, clouds are gravity’s prisoner, too.
Slipping downward, ever faster, water’s sliding, creek or fog bank.
Streaming, crashing down through forest, here is Rider in the current.
Clouds are rushing, capes and tresses, bouncing, flowing, stallion’s steps.
Up once more to distant hilltops, pounding, climbing, flowing further, cresting peak, then slide again.
Horseman’s diving, leathers follow, reins are ribbons in the eddies.
Fabric flowing, saddle’s blankets, wind blown prisoners, following, chasing changing cloud's shape.
Image fading, coming, going, mist is rider, hooves for gusts and visions fading.
Rising, falling, down the hillside, misty stallion, rider’s fading, rippling cape off in the clouds.
Over hilltop, down the gullies, transcendent rider, descending the canyon, heading home again to sea.
Gravity’s prisoner, mist or current, Mother beckons, sea is anchor.

Red Tail Glowing

Red Tail Glowing
Red tail glowing, talons ready
Wings on power-dive, lunch is below.
Hawk is hunting, high in the meadow
Squirrel or rabbit, each a meal.
Quick, it’s over, talons piercing
Hooked beak is slicing, lunch is fresh.
Ripping, tearing, hawk is a butcher.
Today there’s lunch, tomorrow, hunting.
Back home, are the young ones, nestlings still, always hungry, always screeching
Mother's provider, without her, no lunch, without her, no dinner,
until then, they watch and wait

Wuffing Whale

Leviathon’s Breathing

Big Sur greeting, leviathan’s breathing, ocean’s edge is deck side seat.
Right out in front here, not far down the slope,
we can feel her, the ocean’s present.
In our night, perhaps she’ll wake us,
with leviathan snoring, mid waves gentle rocking,
coastal companions, whale in her cove and us in our covers .
Morning light brings farewell sadness, out to sea and southwest bound
Early departure, hoping for Mauii
Distant wuffs mark ocean pathway

Vinnie the Frog

Vinnie the Frog
lived in a log
not far from the roots of a tree.
I was decidin, he would take pride in
a job a workin for me.

He'd handle the bugs, under my rugs
and I'd bring a friend
on whom he'd depend
a leopard frog he had admired.

The leopard consented, so a room I them rented
and Vinnie then moved in with me

Iowa Embers

Iowa Ember
Lightning bug, lightning bug, there in the violets,
under the maple tree, waiting for night.
Evening is coming, don’t be impatient
lightning bug, lightning bug, soon comes the dark.
Evening is fading, I see first flash!
Company’s coming and crowding my grasses
Here in the back yard , up comes the light show,
constellation’s arising, you never know where!
Lightning bug, lightning bug, lighting the walnut tree
Iowa embers, arising and floating, overflying my deck.
Dashing and dancing, where next in my night?
Stars are competing but never could win.
Up come the crickets, chirping in chorus, there in the darkness, they sing the background.
Evening’s accompaniment for lightning bug light-show,
hollywood spectacle, here in my yard.
Lightning bug, lightning bug, evening delight, coming is bed-time with lightning bug dreams.
